General introduction to Biomass Energy

Renewable, sustainable or biomass energy are terms used in association with domestic or commercial heating systems using non-exhaustible materials. These are most commonly wood pellets and bio fuels. Click here for information on ground and air source heat pumps.

Fossil fuels emit high levels of carbon, associated with global warming, when burnt where as these biomass sources of energy tend towards zero carbon emissions. We often hear the term “carbon neutral” used in association with renewables. This is the idea, that as opposed to the burning of fossil fuels that releases CO2 previously locked up into the environment, the burning of renewables is simply the recycling of the total carbon reserve.

The technology is not new, as some countries, notably the Scandinavian countries, have been using Biomass fuelled heating systems for over 20 years.

As fossil fuels become increasingly expensive the green alternatives no longer make only ethical sense but economic sense. Very soon you will be able to see a comparison by entering your current fuel bill in our “Energy Comparison Table”.
