What is Bio Fuel?

Most Bio fuel can be manufactured from many types of plants but the most common sources are palm oil and oil seed rape oil. Cultivation of bio fuel is expanding rapidly and supply is increasing although some palm oil is being cultivated in rainforest areas so please check where your palm oil comes from. Some oil-fired boilers can be converted to burn bio fuel by replacing the burners.

Installation

Installation is no more complex than a traditional oil boiler. A qualified installer will find the technology no more complicated. In addition Nu-way’s technical support team are available to answer installation and operating questions.

Boilers are ideally located in an out building of some type. To install a hopper and boiler the space required is approximately 1.5 wide by 2.5 metres long. The hopper must be adjacent to the boiler. Pellets are automatically fed into the boiler, as required by the electrically operated auger.

Replenishment

The number of companies supplying wood pellets is increasing all the time and a list of pellet suppliers can be accessed. Typically pellets are supplied in 12.5Kilogramme bags, one tonne pallets or larger loads delivered by tanker where the pellets are piped into a larger hopper. Prices vary depending on the time of year, quality (we recommend using Grade A), quantity and the area of the country.

It is also possible to site a hopper outside allowing a larger delivery and less frequent replenishment. Only specialised hoppers should be used to ensure all humidity is eliminated and that the automated auger feed is compatible.

Maintenance

Each month renewable training courses are run by SprintBio. The courses last a day and cover all aspects of renewables, including installation and maintenance. Unlike some systems, installers are not obliged to be registered with any organisation. Maintenance is possibly more straightforward than with traditional fossil fuel boilers.
